Where and what to eat in Gozo / Dove e cosa mangiare a Gozo.

La cucina tipica maltese, e quindi quella di Gozo, è saporita, molto condita e generosa. Tra i piatti tipici da assaggiare molti sono a base di pasta sfoglia, come i deliziosi Pastizzi. Per fortuna, abbiamo scoperto queste delizie tardi o avremmo rischiato di prendere 10 kg perché, oltre ad essere buonissimi, sono MOLTO economici. Altro piatto è la Ftira, una sorta di panino imbottito. Dovete anche assaggiare il coniglio, che a Malta viene cucinato in tutti modi, e la birra maltese, la Cisk. Vi consiglio di assaggiare anche diversi vini locali, da cui sono stata piacevolmente sorpresa. Ho apprezzato molto di trovare a Gozo molti ristorantini curati, belli da vedere e con un'ottima cucina, il personale è stato sempre molto gentile. Il premio di posticino instragrammabile lo vince il nostro preferito per la colazione, il Black Cat Café, il primo che vi presento.

The typical Maltese food, and so the Gozo one, is tasty, laced and generous. Among the typical dishes that you must try, many are made with puff pastry, as the delicious Pastizzi. Fortunately, we discovered these treats late in the holiday, if it hadn't we would probably gain at least 10 kilos because pastizzi, in addition to be yummy, are also super cheap. Anothe dish is the Ftira, a kind of bid sandwich. You should also try the local rabbit and the Maltese beer, the Cisk. I suggest you also to taste the local wines. I was very pleased to find beautiful restaurants in Gozo, good for the sight and for the taste, the staff was always very kind. The most "instagrammable" place was our favourite place for the breakfast, the Black Cat Café.

Il locale è molto molto piccolo, ma noi abbiamo avuto la fortuna di trovare sempre posto. Durante la nostra permanenza abbiamo potuto assaggiare di tutto, ma il piatto forte secondo me è indubbiamente il loro brunch, un toast con avocado, salmone affumicato, uovo e bacon. Buonissimi anche i toast normali e i pancake. Vi consiglio di provare diverse bevande, come il tè freddo e il succo fatto da loro. La gentilezza delle ragazze del locale è unica nell'isola.

The place is very little, but we were always lucky to be able to have our breakfast there every time we wanted. As we went there different times, we could taste many dishes, but my favourite one is their Black Cat brunch, an avocado toast with salmon, egg and bacon. Also the simple toast and pancakes were delicious. I suggest you to try the different drinks too, as their iced tea and their home-made juice. The kindness of the girls of the Black Cat is unique in the whole island.

Dove mangiare pesce / Where to eat seafood: Xlendi

Vi ho già parlato in tutti i modi di Xlendi e non a caso. Oltre a poterci fare il bagno e poter vedere un tramonto fantastico, Xlendi è anche interessante gastronomicamente, perché vi si trovano tra i migliori ristoranti dell'isola. Quasi tutte le prime posizioni di Tripadvisor sono occupate da ristoranti che si trovano a Xlendi. La specialità in comune è sicuramente il pesce, soprattutto i calamari che vengono cucinati in tanti modi diversi, o in maniera tradizionale o con ricette speciali dello chef del ristorante. Noi abbiamo provato ben tre diversi locali a Xlendi. Nel primo, The Stone Crab, abbiamo assaggiato una pasta al granchio meravigliosa e i calamari alla Xlendi, anche questi ottimi. Il personale è stato gentile ed il servizio veloce. La sera delle lanterne (di cui vi parlerò presto) abbiamo cenato al Churchill, dove il servizio è stato un po' più lento, ma comunque cortese, e dove ho mangiato il polpo alla gozitana che è immerso in una salsa dolce a base di pomodoro e cipolle con un pizzico di cioccolato. Sicuramente il premio attenzione al cliente lo vince il The Boat House, per i drink di benvenuto, la professionalità dei camerieri e tante piccole accortezze per coccolarci come il distributore di disinfettante per mani ad ogni tavolo. Il loro trittico di calamari è fantastico.

I already talked to you about Xlendi, because in addition to the possibility to bath there and see a beautiful sunset, Xlendi is also interesting from the gastronomic point of view, because you can find there the best restaurants of the islands. The speciality in Xlendi is fish, particularly squids which are cooked in different ways, from the Gozo tradition to recepies of the chefs. We tried three different restaurants in Xlendi. The first was The Stone Crab, where we taste delicious crab ravioli and Xlendi squids. The staff is kind and service is fast. Then during the lantern night (of which I'll talk to you soon) we had dinner at the Churchill, the service is quite slow, but very kind, I tasted the Gozitan octopus which has a sweet sauce made with tomatoes, onions and a little bit of cocoa. Undoubtedly, The Boat House wins the prize for attention to customers, the welcome drink was delicious and the waiters are extremely professional. The calamari trio is fantastic. 

Dove assaggiare la ftira / Where to eat ftira: Cup Cake, Victoria

Cercando su Tripadvisor abbiamo letto che avremmo trovato un'ottima ftira da Cup Cake, un bar vicino alla stazione dei bus di Victoria. Il locale non è niente di speciale, ma la ftira non ci ha delusi, era buonissima e c'era una vasta scelta di ripieni.

Looking on Tripadvisor we read that we could find one of the best ftira at Cup Cake, a simple bar near Victoria bus station. The place is nothing special, but the ftira was delicious and you could choose from many different stuffing. 

Dove mangiare take-away / Where to eat take-away: Little Heaven Fish & Chips

Il bello di affittare un appartamento è che oltre a potersi preparare il cibo da soli si può anche ordinare qualcosa e mangiarlo nella propria casetta, per quelle giornate in cui si è troppo stanchi per agghindarsi e uscire. Noi, per esempio, comodi comodi nel nostro appartamento abbiamo mangiato dell'ottimo Fish & Chips (a prezzi onestissimi) grazie a Little Heaven, un piccolo locale con una proprietaria gentilissima che ha creato veramente un piccolo paradiso di pesce fritto. Il locale è carinissimo e molto curato.

One of the positive sight of renting an apartment, in addition to being able to cook your own food, is that you can order take-away food and you can eat comfortably at home, for those evenings when you're too tired to go out. For example, we ate a delicious (and cheap) Fish & Chips thanks to Little Heaven, a beautiful place with a lovely owner who created a real paradise of fried fish.

Dove mangiare fare una cena con vista / Where to eat with a view: Maji the Magic Bistrot

Un po' bar, un po' galleria d'arte, un po' bistrot, tutto questo è Maji the Magic Bistrot. La caratteristica più bella del locale? La possibilità di cenare in una terrazza con vista tramonto, una meraviglia. In questo locale ho assaggiato l'antipasto gozitano (già mangiato anche a Xlendi), che include solitamente 2 tipi del tipico formaggio di capra, uno più fresco, l'altro più stagionato, olive, bruschette, tutti ingredienti tipici dell'isola, e il tipico coniglio cucinato alla maltese. Di sicuro la cena più autenticamente gozitana che abbiamo fatto. 

A bar, an art gallery, a bistrot, Maji the Magic Bistrot is all this. But the most fantastic characteristic is that you can have dinner in a beautiful terrace looking at a beautiful sunset. In this restaurant I tasted the typical gozitan appetizer which includes two types of typical gozitan goat cheese, olives and bruschette, and I also tasted the traditional maltese rabbit. This was certainly the most gozitan dinner we had.
